Marking signs

According Art. 5 from the Ordinance on packages and packaging wastes, all producers and importers of packaged goods are obliged to put marking on the packages they launch in the market.

The marking is set for recycling the package and the type of material it is made from. The corresponding mark is as follows:

The type of the material is marked with Latin letters under three arrows. In the table are noted the abbreviations of the materials in types. The number, given in the third column, should be written between the three arrows on the marking sign.

This mark is put on the packages, suitable for differentiated collecting. The sign shows that the package should be disposed only in the right places, in the marked container.

System for separate collection of
package wastes

To fulfill its obligations to organize and establish an efficient and sustainable system for separate waste collection in Republic of Bulgaria and for achieving the targets in recovery and recycling of package wastes, laid in WMA, Reco Pak Shareholding Company signs contracts with the municipalities for implementing a system for separate packaging waste collection. For that purpose Reco Pak Shareholding Company purchases and places on the territory of the municipality sets of containers in three main colors – yellow, green and blue.

Classification of the materials

To decide more easily where to discharge each type of garbage, we draw your attention to a short classification of the materials:

Paper and cardboard packages (РАР):

  • Wastes of corrugated cardboard, such as transporting packages (cases, cardboards) with reinforcing and congestion elements; other boxes and packages and accompanied inclusions of corrugated cardboard; plates, lids and combined transporting packages and palleted goods, etc.;

  • Wastes of plain cardboard (cellulose, waste paper – grey, combined thread materials, layered). Utilized mainly for producing cardboard packages for foods (chocolates, cigarettes), utility goods, tools and cover of books, notebooks, etc., stationery materials;

  • Packaging paper for tote bags – for  цимент, building materials, flour, foods, etc., with remnants of the goods and damp-isolating layers of polyethylene and other polymer material;

  • Molten packaging – plastic tables for eggs and other rarely found packaging goods of that material;

  • Packaging paper for packing and wrapping, but without non-paper inclusions.

  • In the systems for separate collection, encompassing households and community and administrative areas, it is supposed, that there will be collected wastes of old newspapers, writing and copying (notebooks, paper for copy machines and printers), as well as magazines, books, documentation, etc.

Plastic packages:

  • Polyethylene wastes /PE/ - high density polyethylene / HDPE / - thermo-shrinking foil, foil for greenhouses, for wrapping of pallets, bags, tote-bags, etc.; - low density polyethylene /LDPE/   - cases for packagers liquids in bottles, cases for other goods - for example bread, etc., cups, tubes, bottles, etc.

  • Polyethylene thereftalat wastes /РЕТ/ - bottles for soft drinks, etc., spring water, beer, oil, household cleaning liquids, etc.

  • Polypropylene wastes /РР/ - foil (substitute of cellophane) - used for packing mainly food products (biscuits, candies, etc.,); packages of thick foil, used in the making of bottles, tubes, бидони, каси, toys, caps, cases, cups, etc.,

  • Polystyrene wastes /PS/ - cups from yoghurt with separate aluminum foil, plastic disposable cups. Extruded polystyrene – packages for уплътняване and protecting the good. Extruded polystyrene is not recommended to be collected in the marked containers for separate collection of plastics.

  • Polyvinylchloride wastes / PVC / - opaque and differently tainted material for making of tubes, cans, pipes, leatherette, etc., domestic utensils.  Recently research found it’s carcinogenic, so its usage for food packaging was restricted.

 Glass packages (GL):

  • Wastes, consisting mainly of glass – glass bottles and jars, used for packing of foods and liquids, as well as domestic cleaning agents and cosmetics.
